꧁ঔৣ☬Bookmarks and A Finished Edna☬ঔৣ꧂

Hello friends, happy Sunday and happy spooky season to you! It is officially October and that lovely fall feeling is making everything a little more whimsical. I pulled out my Halloween decorations from the garage and planned on putting them up this week. What about you? Do you decorate for Halloween? I normally love to, but this year has felt a little bit more of a chore to decorate than other years so I’m waiting for inspiration to hit before I open up the boxes. I’ve been busy this last week finishing up “Edna and the Bees”, the 16×16” acrylic painting of a little strawberry angler fish that I originally drew back in 2024. I’ve been revisiting some of my older artwork and creating something new and a little more “fine art” from the concept, and I’ve titled this series “Retrospective Infringement”. My next piece for this series is going to be a larger scale painting of “Felt Cute… Might Usher Souls Through the Underworld Later… IDK.” which is a drawing of mine from 2019 (I believe) that has a grim reaper relaxing on a unicorn floaty in the river Styx. Even death needs a break every now and again.

I’ve also been very busy in my art lair this week trying to prepare for the pop-up shop, happening Sunday, October 18th at the Fruaenthal Center in Muskegon, MI! I’m SOOOO jazzed to have been invited to sell before (and after) the movie showing of The Addam’s Family however it has been a LONG time since I have done a pop-up and I’m getting hella nervous! I’ve looked through my Halloween stock of art, made new bookmarks, magnets, keychains, and I’m considering having more stickers made. So far, I feel like I have enough and feel good about my pop-up. I’d love love LOVE to see you all come out and say hi! PLUS you get to watch The Addam’s Family in a stunning theater for free! It’s worth the trip out!

Photo captions-Cover Photo: My daughter drew a heart on the car window one rainy morning, the sun shining through the raindrops was so pretty! Photo 1: Jovi on game day ☻ Photo 2: Collage bookmarks I have made for the pop-up! Photo 3: Hand-painted rock magnets that will also be for sale at the pop-up! Photo 4: My Novanator at the skating rink the other night! 𓆩♡𓆪 Photo 5: Kuzco, the 25 butterfly I have released this year, will be one of the ones that migrates all the way to Mexico this fall! Being a weird caterpillar lady, I learned that butterflies that hatch in the early spring to mid-summer only live 2-6 weeks, their main purpose is to mate, but the LATER summer/early fall hatching monarch butterflies live 6-9 MONTHS and are called the “super generation” as they are the ones that make the migratory flight back to Mexico/Southern states. I still have 2 more chrysalids that will be part of this super generation! Photo 6: My 4-year-old orchid is finally growing a new flower stem! It has been at least a year and a half since it has flowered. Photo 7: “Edna and the Bees” in all her finished glory! I wanted to do a special image post of just her, but I want to get a better picture… She is hard to photograph with her high contrast colors, dark leaves, and varnish! Photo 8: I saw this online somewhere and really enjoyed the message and rawness of the artwork. Photo 9: My hubby wanted to be included in the pictures this week ˃𐃷˂ Our 8-year wedding anniversary is THIS Tuesday! We’ve started a tradition where he takes the day off and we putz around, dating, and thrifting to find our year’s anniversary gift. This years’ is pottery or bronze… that will be lots of fun to look for!

Beyond preparing for the pop-up, finishing up Edna, and all the living in between, I’ve had a REAL tricky time reading Frankenstein. Remember how I said I liked it in high school? I’m not sure how. The book itself is written a bit all over the place, seeming like ideas fluttering around but not actually landing anywhere solid. 〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜 I will admit, however, that the book gets SIGNIFICANTLY better once the creation takes over narration (which is about 100 pages in, then it resumes a back and forth between creator/creation) … I cannot STAND Victor Frankenstein. Good lord. In fact, I DETEST Victor Frankenstein. He is a whiny little bitch boy brat and it is painful to listen to his lamentations. Kind of like Wuthering Heights- where all of it is cringe. Like… Do you realize you are your own problem? Do you know that you created your own antagonist? Frankenstein plays the victim SO DAMN well. But Victor Frankenstein is very much his own monster, and, to me, his creation is the only humanity between the two. I have not finished the book just yet, but I’ll be thrilled when I do… 𖠂_𖠂 I need to find my next book… Do I continue with my gothic theme or has Frankenstein let me down too hard and I need to find another genre? I still want to continue my 19th century literature but would even be interested in modern novels that are set in the century. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

This weekend the family will be heading to the Northville Art House for the reception of Off-Center: Art That Pushes Boundaries. I’m looking forward to seeing Pathogen hanging up in the gallery and I’m REALLY excited to see the whole show… I think this one is going to be fabulous and with all the spooky October vibes. There will be a walking tour of a neighboring cemetery put on by the historical society of the area during the reception that sounds incredible as well! We’ll see! I hope everyone has a great week and gets into the spooky season! Be good, babes.
